When I run dry

When there’s nothing to blog about, the news never fails to spark some interest. A small piece from Kentucky is today’s winner. With a photo caption that reads Wrong Door, the related story describes a break-in and shooting at a private residence.

Two thugs kicked in the door of a 79 year old man at 5am, only inside they found no ordinary retiree or convalescent. This Grandpa fired his .357 Magnum and made short work of the intruders.

Older people with guns is about as scary being stuck behind their Buicks in traffic, but the real question: what’s up with the caption under the photo and the quote from the neighbor – the bit that says Wrong Door. What would have been the Right Door? A wheelchair bound woman who had no means to defend herself? How about a single parent of three? Actually, this was the Right Door, and this gentlemen did his neighbors a favor.

Maybe the real tragedy here is that they didn’t pay him a “visit” earlier.

So that didn’t work

Between writing and Buddhapuss Books, there hasn’t been much time for blogging or movie reviews. Despite my prediction, the War of the Worlds movie review is but vaporware as of this moment. Which is a shame. The short version: I liked the film.

All operations will return to normal by Monday, if not Sunday. Until then – party on. I mean, have a good weekend!

Why I like Belgians

Apparently there are indignities Belgian won’t suffer, even under penalty of international embarrassment and ridicule. They are a tolerant and wise nation, but do not ask them to forgo beer at lunch.

Members of Iran and Belgian’s parliaments were set to meet in a power luncheon in Belgium when Iranian Diplomats requested that their Dutch speaking counterparts not serve alcohol.

“Even for the tolerant Herman De Croo, that was a bridge too far,” De Croo, a Dutch-speaking Liberal, told De Standaard daily Thursday.

Alcohol free lunch…bridge too far…got it.

Now I understand why there hasn’t been a new drug introduced on the European Market in over ten years. What’s left undone before lunch is what is left undone.

Technical Difficulties

Due to technical difficulties yesterday the site may or may not been accessible at certain points of the day. At present, this issue has been addressed. To the best of my knowledge besides a reboot in March, this was the only site outage thus far this year. My goal is 100 percent uptime and while there are just a few other accounts on this box that can impact the server, the goal is a reach sometimes.

The book buy went well; I secured lots of titles normally unavailable. Not sure if that was because there was just more stock, or if the competition was busy elsehwere in the warehouse. Maybe it was a combination of both.

Been on a writing tear for the past few days, a positive trend I trust ( and hope ) continues.
