More Housekeeping

Today marks a new era – the era of a more streamlined site, with all the same performance and content as before, only less clutter. Mostly, the changes are subtle. For instance – the phrase “Browse” in all drop down menus, the removal of the countdown bar. Other changes are more noticeable.

Discarded are the ideas that decayed on the vine. Once I had plans for the store and feedback, but after 14 months with zero movement, it’s clear the development energies were elsewhere. So I ditched the dead stuff. To me, the specter of feature rot impacts site usability. Hopefully the site a more engaging.

If anyone has suggestions for the site, please comment.

Tomorrow back to the funnies. Or something. ;)

I like that you can now get to the “Previous” and “Next” blogs, even when the comments are visible. I believe that wasn’t the case before? Nice. I think it’s always good to cut dead weight. Like getting rid of the clothes you didn’t wear this year. Make space for new stuff – that sort of thing. But just as long as you don’t cut the polls, ’cause that’s my claim to fame!

never fear the polls will always remain. Last minute tweaks are coming to What’s this section. Check back in thirty minutes.

what’s everyones thoughts on 7 days worth of blogs on the front page, like the old school days. Right now it’s just a single entry. I can’t fight this feeling that people don’t scroll.

and what about the previous or next buttons either showing the date or the title of the next / previous blog ?

My first instinct says date is better. But on second thought, your titles tend to be pretty witty, so those might create more interest. So I dunno. Question – what is “Add karma to this blog entry” do? Click the karma button for you if you comment?

very good guess pollster. add karma selection box under the comments behaves exactly as clicking the karma number under an entry – it adds 1 karma point. alll the same rules apply – in other words one vote per entry for a given reader ( more or less ) so if you already voted the traditional way – don’t worry – nothing will break ;) i’m leaning towards titles for the previous/ next.
